Choosing Health Insurance Policies

When it comes to health insurance, women have special needs. There are so many different health issues that women go through that it is important to find health insurance to cover all of them.

The first thing to look at is what your company offers. There are so many different options, but the two most common are fee-for-service and managed care. Find out which one is offered to you, and go from there. Different plans can have different providers and services, cost and quality of care.

* Fee-for-Service – In this plan, you go to the doctor of your choice, and they send a bill to the insurance company. You get billed for the rest. Usually, there is a flat fee per year that you must pay before the insurance company will start to cover expenses.
* Managed Care – This is the most common type of plan, and it is broken down into several different categories; Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and Point of Service (POS). With HMOs, as long as you use a doctor or hospital in your network, your out of pocket costs should be minimal. With a PPO, although you might have a larger network from which to choose your doctor, your premium will be higher. With a POS, your plan is similar to a PPO, but your care will be managed by your Primary Care Physician.

Which one you pick will depend upon your health circumstances. For example, if you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, you might want to pick a health plan that covers pregnancy, to keep your out of pocket costs down. If you have cancer, you will want to pick one that has good doctors and hospitals in the network. Also, if you already have a doctor whom you love, you might want to make sure that you will be able to see them still with the new health insurance policy that you pick.

There are even a number of government-run resources for women without health insurance. There are community health centers, public hospitals, school-based center, public housing primary care centers, migrant health centers and special needs facilities. Other government sponsored programs include:
* Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children (WIC).
* National ****** and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP).
* Maternal and Child Health Services.
* Indian Health Service (IHS).
* Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH).

One of the most difficult situations for women is when they make too much money for public government assistance, but not enough to pay for medical care or health insurance. In this case, they might be able to find temporary insurance through their state, or a low-cost health insurance option through a labor union, professional clubs or organization. There are also free clinics and prescription drug assistance. Women who are coping with cancer can find many government sponsored and volunteer organization, and the Ryan White CARE Act gives aid to women with HIV/AIDS who have little or no insurance, and a limited income.

Health Reform Bill and Medical Compliance in a Physician Practice

Monday, September 20th, 2010

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111-148), also referred to as the “Health Insurance Reform Bill”, is a federal statute that was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. This legislation includes a new requirement for an effective compliance program for healthcare organizations. What was formerly voluntary is now mandatory, including the requirement that healthcare providers applying to enroll as Medicare providers have a compliance program in place.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommends the components of an effective compliance program include:
Conducting internal monitoring and auditing Developing and implementing compliance program policies and procedures Designating a compliance officer or contact person Conducting appropriate training and educating of staff Responding appropriately to detected offenses and developing corrective action Developing open lines of communication, andPhysicians and other providers applying for Medicare participation will be required to have a Compliance Program in place. It is unknown if this requirement will extend to an existing Medicare participating medical group which is adding a physician or other practitioner who has not previously participated in Medicare – but it might! The limitation on submitting claims to Medicare has been reduced to one calendar year from the date of service. Overpayments from Medicare must be returned within 60 days of the date of determination that there was an overpayment. Penalties are 3 times the amount owed. A provider’s enrollment can be revoked if he or she does not maintain a record of physician referrals for home health and DME services, and make the records available to CMS when requested. There must be a face-to-face encounter between the provider and the patient when home health or DME is ordered. (HHS can also extend this requirement to other services) There will be a new protocol for providers to self-disclose violations of the physician self-referral regulations. States may use Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC’s) for audits of state Medicaid programs. A Provider may be terminated from Medicare when terminated from a state Medicaid program. PQRI Measures and HITECH Act Meaningful Use criteria will be integrated, to the extent possible, in the near future. There will be no copayment required from Medicare beneficiaries for preventive services graded A or B by the US Preventive Services Task Force. Medicare will pay 100% of the Medicare Allowable for these services. Medicare will reduce payments to physicians not participating in PQRI by 1.5% in 2015 and by 2.0% in 2016.

So what should a Medical Practitioner be doing?
Develop and implement effective Compliance Policies and Procedures that includes internal monitoring such as a risk-based coding and documentation audit. If you are a Medicare participating provider, begin reporting PQRI measures. Make sure your billing and accounts receivable practices include timely filing of claims and timely refunds to government payors when overpayments are identified. Ensure your EHR system is capable of meeting the Meaningful Use Criteria. Remember that the year 2010 is possibly the one year to “move most aggressively into the future”, because the future is arriving whether you are prepared or not!

As the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is implemented – step by step – regardless of the legal challenges, it is wise to consider the potential impact on your medical practice, including the need for an audit of your medical documentation, coding and billing processes, the program policies and procedures, and the chief compliance officer functions. All important steps to manage your clinic at best practices benchmark standards.

Major Medical Individual Health Insurance – Affordable Plans Online

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Good health is never guaranteed, even if you’ve been healthy all your life. If you’re searching for an affordable major medical insurance plan, there are a few things you should look for before buying health insurance.

Major Medical Individual Health Insurance Plans

Some things to look for when shopping for health insurance are:

A noncancellable, guaranteed renewable coverage policy. Which mean, your policy can’t be cancelled as long as you stay current with your monthly payments and stay within policy guidelines. We’ve all heard stories about insurance companies cancelling a policy when someone becomes sick or injured. Look for a policy that is noncancellable and has a renewal guarantee. Know what your coverage is: I know this sounds simple, but health insurance plans can be quite a bit different from one another. It’s important to understand the level of coverage your plan offers. You should find out what options are available before deciding on which health plan to buy. Higher deductible choices: Many of the new individual health insurance plans now offer larger deductibles. A larger deductible can save you a lot of money in monthly premiums. If you are relatively healthy, a high deductible health plan along with a health savings account is a good plan to look at.
Individual Health Insurance Quotes

Now that almost all major insurance companies have made their medical plans available online, you can go shopping for health insurance any time, night or day, and find affordable individual health insurance that fits your needs.

Why Do You Need Cheap Health Insurance Medical Coverage?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Many people do not feel that they or their families need to have any kind of medical protection because it is simply too expensive. The fact is that cheap health insurance medical coverage can be found and it is important for every family to have it. Getting health insurance quotes is the best way to start the coverage for the entire family.

If a person does not have any form of insurance, the actual costs for visiting a physician or going to a clinic could be much higher than one would imagine. The major medical insurance companies know this and that is why they bargain with the health care providers to get a better price for many of their policyholders. This can be considered a bulk rate discount for medical treatment.

The individual who has to pay for the visit out of pocket will find that they are paying much more than the insurance companies. This is bad because the individual typically has less money to spend on one visit than the insurance company does. While the cost for private medical insurance and cheap health insurance medical coverage may be high, it is not as high as the cost of a doctor’s visit and the subsequent tests and medications can be for someone who is uninsured.

Now imagine the cost of staying in the hospital for a few days or even a week. In some cases, these costs are the same as a year’s tuition at an Ivy League school. Why waste the children’s college fund on medical bills when purchasing cheap health insurance medical coverage will cost much less.

That is not to say that there will not be co-pays and deductibles that must be paid at the time of service, it just means that these out of pocket expenses will be much less. Cheap health insurance medical policies can be designed to make these co-pays as much or as little as the purchaser desires. The more one pays out of pocket, the less the insurance will cost.

So why does one need to have cheap health insurance medical coverage? To put it simply, it is cheaper to pay now than it would be to pay later in an emergency. An insurance policy can be viewed as a savings account for health care any time it is needed.

Medical Insurance Savings – Purchasing Group Health Insurance Or Individual Major Medical Coverage?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Medical Insurance Savings are a reality. Is purchasing group health insurance or individual major medical the best? Either can provide big medical insurance savings. The purchasing choice is yours, presenting some scenarios is mine.

If you are self employed, or without current major medical coverage for yourself or family, you face a big financial decision. Should you gamble right now in good health, and hope you stay healthy? Do you lose medical insurance savings but gain long term security after seeing too many family health members whose health has seriously eroded?

Numerous people are thrilled to save $150.00 a year on home insurance. Others rake in an extra $300 by finding a auto insurer matching their demographics. But the king of insurance savings is the $1,200 or more families can save on buying group health insurance. Millions more people each year qualify for group benefits. Purchasing group health insurance usually require having 10 or more employees. Do not confuse this with a made up “association plan”, making people feel they can get group insurance coverage just by paying a membership fee. The major medical coverage way be poor or great depending on the insurers benefits.

So how do you maximize your medical insurance savings? If you are in good health, and are self-employed, have even a small eBay or other business, or are an independent contractor you have a choice. Sometimes purchasing group insurance coverage is the best route. other times individual major medical coverage is wiser. Here is the key factor. How is your current health, and what is your sense of how it will be 5 to 10 years from now. Purchasing group health insurance through your local chamber of commerce could be your answer for medical insurance savings. This is if you currently have medical problems or feel insecure about your future medical history.

With few exceptions, you can join the local Chamber of Commerce, and get health insurance coverage on their group plan. Group Insurance coverage when compared to similar benefit individual major medical coverage is often at least 10% less costly. So if you were quoted $1,000 a month for a family individual major medical coverage, saving 10% equals $1,200.00 annually.

Only with an individual plan is your current health a major issue of cost and insurability. Any major health condition now or in the past will creep out to haunt you. For individual health insurance, you may receive a counteroffer to play 50% to 100% more for the health insurance. Additionally any claims on your health coverage for pre-existing and current health issues will usually not be eligible during the first 180 days. Paying a couple grand out of your own pocket is certainly neither an uncommon or pleasant emergency expense.

Enrolling in the Chamber Of Commerce plan is the route to go if you have current major health problems or pre-existing health conditions. The Chamber plan MUST accept you. And your current and past health flaws are covered in zero to 90 days. All this, and even unhealthy members pay the exact same cost as every other Chamber member.

Now look at the negative side of the group health insurance coverage. A Chamber established for a long time can be bad for you. Now you have numerous members over age 55 with countless health problems. Claims are constantly paid out, forcing rates to rise. Each year the insurer looks at the claims paid versus the benefits paid out. Your rates could zoom upward suddenly and you may be trapped. Certainly, if now you are one of the unhealthy.

Good health chamber members, often opt for individual major medical coverage when rates soar. This causes the insured pool to shrink further down to mainly medically prone members.. For those whose health has declined, they have no way out.. After your health declines, individual health insurance is no longer a viable option. Trapped into skyrocketing Chamber rates are not uncommon. Whenever the nightmare begins, there is one positive note, just be thankful that the government is not managing your important health future. Do you want to wait months to see a specialist?

With so many individual major medical coverage plans offered through a variety of insurance companies you truly need a guide. By this is meant an independent insurance agent representing many different health insurance cariers, with options galore, and rates that differ dramatically. Some provide price sticker shock while another accepting only those currently with excellent medical histories provides medical insurance savings.

Check out both of these options before investing your health on a very important decision.

Health Medical Supplies

Friday, March 6th, 2009

The purpose of this article is to give seniors and caregivers lifestyle advice that can create a positive impact. With baby-boomer closing in on retirement there are more and more seniors on the web every day. Health Medical Supplies is all about improving your life or a loved one’s life in the later years by giving comprehensive advise about health and medical supplies. In this article I just want to discuss the importance of staying active and independent for as long as possible. In my experience as a life and health insurance agent I have gone on thousands of in home appointments with seniors and I have seen everything.

I have also worked with seniors in thirteen different states, so when I say I’ve seen everything I mean literally everything, and if I haven’t seen, I’ve heard it from my co-workers. So if I had to give one piece of advise from my experience it would be “take care of your body and it will take care of you”. The healthiest seniors Ive met were always active ones, mentally and physically. I’m not saying you have to be Jack Lalanne, just try to be active is all I’m saying. Get out and walk once in a while, take the stairs, sign up for a water exercise class. Always consult your doctor before making these sort of changes to your life.

It’s amazing how big the diet industry, everyone wants to find the magical pill they can take that makes the fat melt away. So now I’m going to pass along a secret, a secret that you can use to help you lose weight that is guaranteed to work, are you ready, here it is – Diet & Exercise really work!! – whew. Glad I got that out there. When you exercise and watch what your eating you have more energy, when you have more energy you feel better, when you feel better you have less stress, etc. Its a heck of a cycle, but again it works. So what does medical supplies have to do with staying health and independent?

I will go over one of my favorites: Hot/Cold Water Therapy system is a machine that you fill up with water and then it has a tube connected to a wrap. You take the wrap and wrap it around your leg or back or hands or wherever you have pain, swelling, poor circulation, etc. You turn the machine on and it pumps hot or cold water through the wrap increasing you blood flow and reducing any pain or inflammation that you are experiences. I luckily have access to this machine so I use it my self. I like to do 15 minutes of hot water and then 15 minutes of cold water therapy until I’m satisfied. So if you have Medicare you can get one of these for nothing. So hopefully I have helped someone out today and then maybe I’ll help out another person tomorrow or next week with this article. I just know that I can reach so many more people online. So that’s it hope you enjoyed and have a great day!
